Clonazepam Withdrawal Symptoms
BENZODIAZEPINES
This group of drugs includes diazepam, temazepam, nitrazepam, all of which are prescribed drugs. If these drugs are obtained without a prescription, they come under class B of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and if prepared for injection are classed as class A drugs.
Benzodiazepines are depressants and prescribed to treat symptoms of anxiety and sleeping difficulties. Guidelines are that they should only be prescribed for short-term use as they are addictive, and should not be prescribed to people with a history of drug or alcohol dependence. Some people become aggressive, hostile, agitated and
experience perceptual disorders when using benzodiazepines.
Abrupt withdrawal may result in confusion, toxic psychosis and convulsions. This demonstrates how features common to mental illness can result from both misuse and withdrawal of these drugs .
