When staff talked to his wife about Jim’s interests and occupation, it emerged that as a young man he had been an apprentice French polisher, something he loved. The war interrupted his apprenticeship. The staff gave Jim polish and cloths and encouraged him to polish when he wanted to. The change in Jim was amazing. He was more communicative, less restless and smiled a lot.
