What is challenging behaviour? Challenging behaviour is behaviour that people think is abnormal or unusual within the person’s culture. Examples could include:  Someone being aggressive to themselves or to others  Someone damaging property  Someone screaming and other socially inappropriate behaviours  Someone refusing to take part in activities and other more ‘resistant’ types of behaviours This type of behaviour is seen as a problem because of what it can do to the person involved and others around them. These behaviours can physically hurt people. They can also stop people from doing what they want. It might make their life more difficult because they find it hard to get along with other people in their community.
