amenorrhea definition
In females, one of the first questions a nurse or doctor may ask is whether theperson’s periods have stopped; usually this is the case. Sometimes, the periods stop before significant weight loss occurs. This can then motivate the person with anorexia nervosa to continue with the weight loss (there is a belief that one of thereasons this disorder occurs is that the female is trying to avoid growing into awoman).
The commencement of the menstrual cycle means the process has began. If the female can halt this process by weight loss, this provides her with the motivation to continue in the hope that her maturity into womanhood can be stopped.
